Doubleyou.poetry is a space devoted to sharing my experiences, times of difficulty, times of extreme jubilance and excitement, and everything in between. As a recovering addict, it takes a lot of self-discipline, practice, patience, and action (more than anything) to start life over on a clean slate. It is not easy, but it is possible. In my 3 1/12 years of recovery so far, I have slipped, relapsed, taken many steps forward and many steps back, however the one consistent thing is that I ALWAYS know where to come back. My life has changed into a beautiful existence that I never before thought I could possibly achieve, I leared that it was possible, but not on my own, which is what I was determined on accomplishing for many years during active use. Unfortauntely, I ruined relationships, family, friends, significant others, I lost jobs, I became untrustworthy and a liar. Not because I chose to one morning getting out of bed. But bacuse I had no other choice. If I couldn't spend every waking hour making sure that my days were arranged to suit what I needed in order to feel "normal" and "functional", then I would immediately withdrawal and exhibit flu like symptoms. If you know someone or you yourself have been through something similar, you know how torturous this can be. Now, I aim to share my experence strength and hope with you through something I love doing. Writing. Poetry, song lyrics, short stories, etc., will all be posted for you to see. Whether it is for a laugh, or inspiration, I guarantee you will find what you are looking for here, and maybe even develop the courage to seek the help you quietly need, or help a family member in that direction.
